Kozakov Challenge 2012 report

Here we go again! What I remember most from the last 2 years I raced at Kozakov was RAIN, cold, few runs and amazing parties at  night. But this year I discovered a totally different event!

The rain happened but it gave us an opportunity to have an amazing freeride day! I had never ridden Kozakov like that. This year I felt better on this road. The track is really fast in the beginning and the first break before the long right curve is incredible! After that you face 3 hairpins and for the finish: a long fast schuss (straight) and then one last curve right before the finish line.

My feelings were not wrong when I saw the next day that I was the 1st lady according to qualifying times. Jolanda Vogler was 2nd , Rebbeka Gemperle 3rd.

In the open class, the level was so high that a lot of us did not qualify. Thankfully they did a repechage race for the last men. Everybody went to the track to see the show. Fast and amazing!

The last day (race day), we ladies were honored to have a movie run with the camera car of 3heads production! I can’t wait to see those scenes! I really enjoyed making them. At the end of the day, it rained. The organization decided to keep the race but only on the 3 hairpins in the middle of the track. All of us put rain wheels on our setups and got down to the start line.

The first run was really weird on the wet, greasy road, but it dried really fast. After the second run, the road was almost dry and I still had my rain wheels on. At the final heat I slid out in the corner and was not able to fight for the 1st place. I want to salute the great performance of Lenka, the Czech girl, who did it very well on the wet track.

Finally Rebbeka Gemperle won the wet race, I took the second place, Lenka the third and Kari Havenik the 4th. Tamara Prader won the consolation final.

For the men, great surprise to see a French/Swiss guy won the race! Kevin Bouaich attended his first Kozakov challenge this year and he really imposed himself on every run he did.

I advice every body to taste this awesome road for next year’s race.
